Founded in Sydney, St Patrick's Junior Rugby Club is a thriving sports club dedicated to helping junior rugby players reach their full potential. The club's main goal is to provide a community environment where each player can develop their rugby skills and excel in the sport.
At St Patrick's Junior Rugby Club, they understand that each player possesses unique athletic attributes such as height, size, fitness, agility, speed, and coordination. The club's experienced coaching team's role is to take these raw attributes and teach each child the rules, skills, strategies, and teamwork required to succeed in rugby.
The club firmly believes that rugby has a position for players of all shapes and sizes. Therefore, based on the attributes of each child, the coaching team identifies different positions that will suit them best. The philosophy of the club is to develop a child's rugby skills by allowing them to experience several positions throughout the season. This approach ensures optimal skill development through a cycle of “train, play, review” over the course of a few weeks.
In the older teams, specifically Under 10+, where a captain is required, the leadership position is rotated between three or four players who exhibit leadership potential. St Patrick's Junior Rugby Club recognises the importance of leadership in team sports and aims to expose and develop this skill in their players from a young age.
The season proper for St Patrick's Junior Rugby Club runs from April to September. Pre-season training begins in February to prepare the players for the upcoming season. Matches for the Under 6s to Under 9s teams are held on Saturday mornings at St Luke's Oval Concord, with games starting at 8:30am and the Under 9s finishing by 11:25am. The Under 10s to Under 17s teams play on Sundays, with home games taking place at Hudson Park, Strathfield.
The games are typically scheduled for the morning or early afternoon.
St Patrick's Junior Rugby Club conducts pre-season training sessions on Sunday mornings at Hudson Park from 8:30am to 9:30am, starting on Sunday 4 February 2024. These training sessions are open to all ages and experience levels. During the season, the club holds training sessions on Wednesday nights at Hudson Park from 5:00pm to 6:00pm. For up-to-date details about training sessions, interested individuals can refer to the club's Facebook page.
