About

Associated Public Schools Old Collegians (Amateur Athletic Association), commonly known as APSOC, is a prominent sports club based in Melbourne, Australia. APSOC has a rich history and is dedicated to promoting amateur athletics and fostering a sense of camaraderie among its members.

One of the highlights of the APSOC calendar is the annual dinner, which serves as a celebration of the achievements and contributions of its members. The most recent dinner marked the retirement of Professor Field Rickards, a respected figure who had served as the handicapper for 35 years. The event also showcased the announcement and celebration of award winners from the season.

APSOC is renowned for its competitive athletics programme, with events such as the Cooke-McClelland 8k attracting participation from top-tier clubs like Old Scotch and St Kevin's. In a remarkable turn of events, Old Scotch claimed the division 1 premiership for the first time since 2002, while St Kevin's secured the women's leadingship. This victory highlighted the dedication and talent within APSOC.

The club also organises handicap races, where even underdogs have a chance to shine. The Hare & Hounds event saw three fast runners, Adam Pyke, Tom Bowers, and Jason Schneller, defy expectations and emerge as frontrunners in a smaller field. Their outstanding performance demonstrated the competitiveness and excitement that permeate APSOC events.

APSOC is committed to nurturing future talent and providing opportunities for athletes to excel. The club's XCR season culminated in the annual Tan Relays, where APSU's W50 and M60 teams clinched gold medals, showcasing the promising future of the club. Additionally, APSU's top team, led by Ben Beischer, performed exceptionally well in the XCR Half Marathon Championships, securing a fourth-place finish and contributing to APSU's victory.

Another prominent team within APSOC, APS United, demonstrated exceptional skill and determination in the XCR Ekiden Relay. While three teams finished as runners-up in their respective grades, the M60 team continued its unbeaten run, further establishing APS United's dominance in the field.

APSOC provides a platform for athletes to showcase their abilities and compete alongside like-minded individuals. The club emphasises fair play, sportsmanship, and community spirit. By participating in APSOC events, members have the opportunity to develop their athletic skills, build lifelong friendships, and contribute to the legacy of this esteemed sports club.

To stay updated with APSOC activities and engage with the club, interested individuals can log in to the APSOC website. Here, they can register for the season, update their details, check recent results, and even visit the club shop. APSOC welcomes all who are passionate about amateur athletics and seeks to create a vibrant and inclusive sporting community in Melbourne.
