Brisbane Paddling Club

Brisbane Paddling Club is a thriving sports club located in Brisbane, Australia. Founded in 2001 at the Ross Street boat ramp in Newstead, the club initially started as a meeting point for cross-training activities and land fitness drills. Over the years, the club evolved and began focusing on improving paddling skills.

In 2014, the club became officially known as the Breakfast Creek Paddlers, with Damien Lovejoy serving as the president. Under his leadership, the club gained local recognition and attracted more paddlers to join their ranks. In 2017, the club formed an executive committee and established a constitution, becoming an incorporated entity. They also became affiliated with Paddle Queensland.

The club saw further growth in 2018 when they won the Pacific Coast Paddling Series, solidifying their reputation as a competitive force in the water sports community. Today, Brisbane Paddling Club boasts nearly 100 members who use various watercraft, including ocean ski, surf ski, and kayaks. The club primarily trains on the Brisbane River, specifically from Breakfast Creek and the Sandgate Road boat ramp.

Brisbane Paddling Club caters to a diverse range of paddlers, from beginners to elite athletes competing at state, national, and international levels. Their resident coach, Julian Norton-Smith, offers coaching sessions for intermediate and advanced paddlers, helping them develop their technique and confidence in different water environments, such as lakes, rivers, and oceans.

The club hosts a variety of events and competitions, giving all members opportunities to showcase their skills. They also participate in local club and racing series events, fostering a sense of camaraderie and healthy competition within the community.
