Cadfor Equestrian

We bought “Cadfor” in 2001 and moved here from Picton in September 2005. We designed and built a solar passive house suited to the very cold climate. (If you want to see how cold, Cadfor has a weather station which sends its data to the internet – see Cadfor Weather.

People have asked where the name “Cadfor” came from. “Cadfor” is the name of the farm in Govilon, Wales where Rod’s mother was born. Rod’s cousins still live at the original Cadfor. Cadfor is Welsh for Ifor’s (Ivor’s) place.

We breed Murray Grey cattle and some horses on our 330 acres. We have had long term interests in agriculture, particularly horses and cattle. Now being full time on the property allows us to enjoy our horses and cattle more than when we had day jobs and farmed part-time.

Rod Hoare was previously employed by NSW Department of Primary Industries as State Equine Veterinary Officer. During the 2000 Olympics Rod was Quarantine Manager for SOCOG. During the Equine Influenza outbreak in 2007 Rod worked as an Industry Liaison Officer at Orange. Rod was Biosecurity Farmer of the Year 2012.

Helena Warren is an Accredited Riding Instructor (NCAS Level 1) whose interests are eventing and dressage. She was previously a Project Officer running field days for NSW DPI, based at Goulburn and prior to that was involved in fertiliser field research and ran the Feeds Evaluation Service in the old Department of Agriculture.

We offer riding instruction, riding camps and horse management clinics at “Cadfor” plus we usually have some horses of our breeding for sale.
