Dance Scottish WA is a sports club located in Perth, Western Australia. Affiliated with the international Royal Scottish Country Dance Society, the club offers a range of classes with qualified instructors, exciting events, and connexions to local clubs in the area.
At Dance Scottish WA, individuals can enjoy the benefits of dance, including increased fitness levels and mental alertness, while participating in a vibrant social activity. Contrary to popular belief, no partners or kilts are necessary to join in the fun. The club invites everyone to dance to lively Scottish music and become part of a lively international community of dancers.
For those interested in getting involved, classes are held on specific days at different locations throughout Perth. The club strongly encourages double vaccination to ensure the safety of all participants, but it is not mandatory. The wearing of masks is optional, and reasonable separation is encouraged during socialising. Regular hand sanitising or washing is also requested, and individuals are asked to refrain from attending if they are unwell, have been diagnosed with COVID-19, or are awaiting test results.
Tuesdays are designated for the Intermediate Class, held at Anglican Church of the Holy Cross in Melville from 8-10pm. The class is taught by Anne Walker and Rebecca Head during Term 1, Anne Walker and John Brenchley during Term 2, Anne Walker during Term 3, and Audrey Emmett and Barbara Boyd during Term 4.
Thursdays are reserved for the General Class, welcoming beginners, at Dalkeith Hall from 7. 30-9. 30pm. Barbara Boyd leads the class during Term 1, John Brenchley and Anne Walker during Term 2, John Brenchley during Term 3, and John Brenchley during Term 4.
Advanced classes take place on Fridays at Dalkeith Hall at 7. 30pm (please note the new time). Led by Barbara, John, and Audrey on alternate weeks, these classes occur on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of each month and any 5th Friday where there is no Hop the next evening. Classes run continuously throughout the year, even during school holidays.
Membership fees can be paid by the term and through direct deposit for convenience.
