With two teams of seven (one goalkeeper included) Handball requires players to pass the round ball with their hands aiming to shoot it into the goal at the opposing end. The goal is surrounded by a six meter zone that can only be defended by the goalkeeper with the playing field measuring 40 by 20 metres. Players have a go at throwing the ball from outside the zone, with athletic players able to leap from outside the zone as long as they can throw before touching down on the playing surface. The Handball being played at the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games was first introduced for men in the 1972 Summer Olympics and for women in 1976.
