With between 5 and 7 players per side, indoor soccer is a faster paced variant of the outdoor game. It is played in a walled indoor arena and was developed to allow people to continue playing soccer during the winter months, when being outdoors was undesirable. Indoor soccer is discernible from futsal as it is played on a synthetic turf.
