Welcome to Sandy Bay Bowls Club, your community gathering place for the most enjoyable lawn bowls experience in Hobart. Located close to the picturesque River Derwent, our club offers two greens with excellent playing conditions, accommodating up to 64 players on each green at a time.
We are proud to have a new synthetic green that is open all year round, providing our members and visitors with the opportunity to play bowls regardless of the season. Our grass green, on the other hand, is open from September through to April. During the summer months, the grass green is typically open six days a week.
At Sandy Bay Bowls Club, we prioritise both competitive and social bowling events. We have teams that participate in the Saturday Pennant, Midweek (Wednesday), and Thursday Pennant competitions. Regular social games are also organised for the enjoyment of our members. Visitors are always warmly welcomed to join in on the fun.
If you're looking for a relaxed and enjoyable bowls experience, our club offers social bowling events on Fridays and Sundays throughout the year. In the winter months, we also have games on Tuesdays and Saturdays. On Wednesday evenings during summer, we hold our popular barefoot bowling competition, which is a fantastic way to unwind and have fun with friends.
Our fully licenced bar is the perfect place to socialise with fellow club members and friends. During summer, the bar is open from Tuesday to Friday, starting at 3pm until around 7pm. On Saturdays, it opens at 12 noon and remains open throughout the day. In winter, the bar is open whenever bowls is being played and also operates from 4.
00pm to 7. 00pm on Fridays.
Throughout the season, we also host enjoyable social functions that bring our members together. We encourage new members, friends, and visitors to join us and experience the welcoming atmosphere of Sandy Bay Bowls Club. Our club is always open to new members and if you're interested in playing lawn bowls, our Secretary can arrange for you to get on the green and provide some initial assistance. Bowls are available for borrowing, so you can try out the sport without having your own equipment.
