We’re always keen to have new members join the club and every year we run a series of dedicated ‘Novice Programs’ to introduce new paddlers to the sport of Outrigger Canoeing.
We also have the first Tuesday evening session of every month as an open session for anyone who wants to come down to try it out.
At some point we were all novice paddlers, so we understand exactly what it’s like learning a new sport and meeting new people.
In safe hands
We make sure there are always plenty of experienced paddlers and coaches on hand to make your first paddle an enjoyable learning experience. More importantly, it will ensure you have the right technique and skills so your paddling will continue to improve.
The novice program is an introduction to the skills, traditions and social activities that are a part of outrigger canoeing.
What you will learn in the course
• Learn the basics of a good paddling stroke
• Become familiar with the various responsibilities in the boat
• Paddle on our fabulous harbour
• Safety drills
• More importantly – having fun!
We have paddles and equipment you can use until you decide to buy your first paddle (always an exciting time for any paddler), so what’s stopping you?
