The club was originally built by dedicated volunteers on partially reclaimed land after the club exchanged the old club and land for a 25-year lease on the current site. Its original location was on the foreshore, approximately halfway between the current clubhouse and the Royal Motor Yacht Club. Local materials, including old railway rails from the former train switch yard in the area, were utilised in the construction, showcasing the club's commitment to repurposing and sustainability.

Toronto Amateur Sailing Club is known for its vibrant sailing programme, offering opportunities for sailors of all ages and skill levels. Most Sundays from September to April, the club hosts sailing sessions, with some Saturdays also included in their programme. Additionally, the club organises a monthly working bee on the last Sunday of each winter month, fostering a sense of camaraderie among its members.
