Aikido Bugokoro is a well-respected martial arts club located in Saint-Colomban that focuses on the practice of the Japanese martial art of Aikido. The club's name, “Bugokoro,” translates to “Martial Spirit” in English, reflecting the dedication and passion of its members towards their art. The club's dojo, or training space, is a sacred place where students come to study the path of Aikido, surrounded by Tatami mats essential for the practice of ukemi, or falling techniques.

Within the dojo, there is a designated area called kamiza, which is considered the “seat of the gods. “ Here, a portrait of O-sensei, the founder of Aikido, is often displayed along with other traditional items like calligraphy or floral arrangements. The club's instructor occupies a central position near kamiza, embodying respect and humility towards the art and its lineage. Students are mindful not to turn their back to kamiza or the photo of O-sensei, showing reverence to the tradition and culture of Aikido.

Aikido Bugokoro emphasizes etiquette and respect as integral parts of the training experience. Students are encouraged to use Japanese forms of politeness, such as saying “O negai shimasu” before practising a technique and “Dmo arigat gozaimashita” after, to show gratitude and mutual respect. These practices not only align with the Japanese origins of Aikido but also cultivate a sense of mindfulness and discipline in every aspect of training.
