Austral Community Walking Group is a sports club based in Sydney that aims to promote a healthy and active lifestyle through organised walking activities. The group, led by Walk Organiser Jordan, welcomes individuals of all ages and fitness levels to join their weekly walks.
With a current membership of 47 individuals, Austral Community Walking Group offers a medium-paced walking experience that lasts for approximately 30 minutes or less. The group prides itself on being dog-friendly, allowing members to bring their furry friends along for the walks. However, it is important to note that the walks are not pram or wheelchair-friendly.
The meeting point for the walks is the Austral Shopping complex in front of IGA, located at the corner of Edmondson Avenue and Tenth Avenue in Austral. This central location offers convenient access for members from the surrounding areas.
Austral Community Walking Group encourages members to connect with other walking groups nearby to expand their social circle and meet like-minded individuals who are passionate about leading a healthy lifestyle.
The group is proud to be supported by the National Heart Foundation of Australia and works closely with healthcare professionals to provide a structured and supportive walking programme that complements their care. For individuals who want to take their walking journey to the next level, the group offers free Personal Walking Plans that can help improve overall health and wellbeing in just six weeks.
Walking is known as the “wonder drug” because it offers numerous health benefits. Regular walking for at least 30 minutes a day can lower the risk of heart disease, stroke, and diabetes by 30 to 40 percent. It also helps in managing weight, blood pressure, and cholesterol levels, reducing the risk of developing some cancers, maintaining bone density, improving balance and coordination, and reducing the risk of falls and injuries.
Many members of the Austral Community Walking Group have experienced firsthand the positive impact walking has had on their lives.
