About
Bicycle SA's Bikes Active program is all about getting young people excited about cycling and leading an active lifestyle. Specifically designed for students aged 12-16 who may find traditional classroom learning challenging or who come from financially disadvantaged backgrounds, this program aims to introduce them to the joys of cycling and promote it as a healthy form of transportation.
Spanning 7 weeks, Bikes Active allows students to learn the basics of mountain biking through interactive challenges right on their school grounds. As they progress and gain confidence, our skilled instructors will select nearby trails and tracks where they can put their newfound skills to the test on real rides.
One of the greatest aspects of the Bikes Active program is its flexibility. Our instructors understand that each student has unique needs and abilities, and they tailor the program to cater to the specific requirements and skill levels of the student group. This ensures that everyone gets the most out of their cycling experience and feels supported every step of the way.
We're proud to announce that the Bikes Active program will be implemented in 10 schools over a 3-year period, totalling 30 programs. This extensive initiative is made possible thanks to the generous funding provided by the Active State Collaboration Program 2022-23, which comes from the esteemed Office for Recreation, Sport, and Racing.
By participating in the Bikes Active program, students not only get to experience the thrill of cycling but also learn valuable skills, foster a sense of camaraderie, and develop a lifelong passion for an active lifestyle. It's a wonderful opportunity for young individuals to break free from traditional classroom settings and discover the wonderful world that cycling has to offer.
