About
The Calgary Chess Club is a vibrant and welcoming community for chess enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels. We are committed to providing a space where players can hone their skills, compete in tournaments, and build lasting friendships with fellow chess enthusiasts. The club is open on weeknights for regular meetings, lessons, and casual play, with weekends reserved for larger tournaments and special events.
Our dedicated team of instructors, led by renowned chess coach Paul Gagne, offers regular classes for beginners and novices looking to improve their game. We also host a variety of tournaments throughout the year, including the Grand Tour, Grand Prix, and Bobby Fischer Memorial, to provide our members with opportunities to test their skills against other players in a competitive setting.
In addition to our structured programs and events, the Calgary Chess Club also hosts a Friday Open House and Family Social, where players can enjoy casual games of chess and connect with other members of the community. This event is free and open to the public, serving as a great introduction to the club for newcomers.
Overall, the Calgary Chess Club is dedicated to fostering a thriving chess community in Alberta and beyond. We are proud to be a part of national and international chess governing bodies, and we strive to raise the profile of the game in schools and the larger community. Whether you're a seasoned player or just starting out, we invite you to join us at the Calgary Chess Club and become a part of our growing chess family.
