The Avalon Arena Association was established in March of 1972 by a group of individuals who recognized the need for more ice facilities in the St. John's area. With a mission to provide safe, clean, and user-friendly facilities, the association has been serving the community for over 40 years. Through fundraising efforts and community contributions, the association was able to open Twin Rinks in June of 1976, offering a venue for various hockey and skating schools, regional events, and community gatherings.

The volunteer Board of Directors, led by dedicated individuals such as David Riche, Brian Wakelin, and John O'Brien, has worked tirelessly to ensure the continuous improvement and maintenance of the facilities. Over the past decade, upgrades to the building have included roof improvements, upgraded ice plant, expanded parking lot, new Olympia Ice Machines, new score clock, replacement of bleachers, and construction of new dressing rooms. These enhancements have enhanced the overall experience for user groups and visitors alike.

With friendly and helpful staff, the Avalon Arena Association is committed to providing a top-notch experience for all who utilize the facilities. The association looks forward to serving the people of St. John's for many more years to come, providing a hub for sports, recreation, and community events in the heart of the city.
