DFY's mission is clear: to engage disaffected or disenfranchised children and equip them with the physical and mental skills they need to reach their full potential. Central to this mission is the use of top-tier mentors. Sporting talents from across the country serve as DFY ambassadors and role models, bringing leadership, mentoring, and coaching to both the classroom and the field. This approach helps boost confidence, communication skills, team play, and sportsmanship, leading to better school engagement and reduced truancy.
Supported by various sources, DFY has run successful sports camps and programmes, with backing from organisations such as WNST and Barclays Sported. Ambassadors like England rugby star Sadia Kabeya, Tottenham Women's player Kerys Harrop, and weightlifter Zoe Smith inspire young athletes through their involvement.
Growing rapidly, DFY now coaches over 1,000 children each week and operates as a registered charity. Their initiatives include after-school programmes and summer camps for disadvantaged children, ensuring continued support both during and outside school hours.
