Intentionally jumping or falling from a height into a body of water is the sport of diving. Since its inclusion in the Olympic games of 1904, diving has become not only a high-level competitive sport but also a recreational pastime for many. For competitions, participants need to possess athletic characteristics such as flexibility, strength and air awareness, similar to athletes from gymnastics or dance.
