DSA Dragon Boat Club, located in Rhodes, is a competitive dragon boat racing club with a proud history dating back to its establishment in 1983. As one of the founding clubs of the sport in Australia, DSA has been competing at the highest levels of dragon boating for 40 years. The club prides itself on its strong team spirit, which has been instrumental in its success.
The club welcomes both new and experienced members of all ages and cultural backgrounds. DSA believes in fostering a sense of camaraderie and teamwork among its members, which has contributed to their achievements at state, national, and international levels. Many paddlers from the club have represented Sydney Metro Regional team, NSW state team, and the Australian national team, known as the Auroras.
In addition to competitive racing, DSA supports its members in achieving their personal goals, whether it be getting fit, making new connexions, or representing their country in dragon boating. The club organises various social activities, including City to Surf, Cockatoo Cup Outrigger Canoe race, Park Run, hikes, brunches, and dinners, creating a strong sense of community among its members.
For those interested in trying out dragon boating, DSA offers free trial sessions for up to five sessions. These sessions take place on Sunday mornings throughout the season. Whether you're an experienced paddler or completely new to the sport, DSA welcomes all enthusiasts to join their club for the upcoming 2023-24 season.
DSA prioritises the development and strengthening of its paddlers. The club's main dragon boat training occurs three times a week during the season, supplemented by OC1 outrigger canoe sessions on Saturday mornings, OC6 outrigger canoe sessions on Sunday mornings, and strength and conditioning sessions on Sunday mornings before training.
