Flamenco Dance is a renowned dance school in London that specialises in the highly-expressive and passionate art form of flamenco. Flamenco is a solo dance that is characterised by hand clapping, percussive footwork, and intricate hand, arm, and body movements. With a history dating back nearly five hundred years, flamenco is a mysterious and misunderstood culture that has captivated people all over the world.
The founder and lead instructor of Flamenco Dance is Juani Garcia, a seasoned professional who studied flamenco at an early age in Madrid and then Sevilla. After gaining valuable experience with the Paco Mundo Company in Madrid, Mallorca, Malaga, and Portugal, Juani returned to the UK to continue her career. She has since performed worldwide and extensively throughout the UK, appearing at prestigious venues such as the Royal Festival, Queen Elizabeth Halls, and the Barbican Theatre.
At Flamenco Dance, students have the opportunity to learn various flamenco styles, including buleria, solea, seguiriya, tangos, tientos, sevillanas, and alegria. The dance classes are held in three different locations – Beckenham, Wimbledon, and Cardiff – making it convenient for students from different parts of London to access.
The dance classes cater to different skill levels, with options for beginners, intermediate dancers, and even advanced students. The schedule is flexible, with classes available on weekdays and weekends. For example, in Wimbledon, the classes take place at The Lantern Arts Centre on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. The intermediate and advanced classes provide a more in-depth study of flamenco techniques and choreography.
In addition to regular dance classes, Flamenco Dance also offers workshops for schools, colleges, and universities. These workshops are not only educational but also fun and exciting, providing an opportunity for students to learn about the history and geography of flamenco and the Gypsy Travels. Accompanied by a flamenco guitarist, Juani demonstrates the use of fans, shawls, and castanets, making the workshops engaging and interactive.
