About
Glasgow Coastal Rowing Club is a rowing club located in Glasgow, New Zealand. The club was established in February 2016 and is a part of the Scottish Coastal Rowing Association. Coastal rowing in Anstruther revived a tradition dating back to the middle of the 20th century and has since grown to include approximately 150 clubs in Scotland and beyond.
The club primarily rows St Ayles skiffs, which are 22ft long four-oared boats. These boats are crewed by four rowers and a coxswain. The design of the St Ayles skiffs is inspired by the traditional Fair Isle skiffs, which were small and relatively lightweight fishing vessels suitable for use in rough sea conditions.
Glasgow Coastal Rowing Club aims to provide its members with a fun and affordable way to engage in exercise and socialise. Membership is open to anyone aged 18 and over, and the club offers rowing sessions and other activities dependent on skipper availability.
In addition to rowing, the club also focuses on maintaining and repairing their skiffs, ancillary equipment, and facilities. This requires a continuous effort from the members. The club emphasises safety through its rules and code of conduct, including the use of lifejackets and proper rowing technique.
Glasgow Coastal Rowing Club offers club-branded kit, including t-shirts, hoodies, caps, and beanies. Orders are placed with the supplier when there is sufficient interest from members.
The club rows regularly from the Riverside Museum Pier in Glasgow. They are grateful for the financial and other support received from a number of organisations. The club has a committee, which includes positions such as the Convenor, Secretary, and Treasurer. They also hold annual general meetings to discuss club matters.
Overall, Glasgow Coastal Rowing Club provides a welcoming and active community for rowing enthusiasts in Glasgow, New Zealand. Whether you are looking to get involved in rowing or simply want to support the club, there are various ways to participate and contribute to this thriving club.
