Kumgang taekwondo

Kumgang Taekwondo is a reputable martial arts school located in Auckland, New Zealand. The name Kumgang means Diamond, symbolising strength and hardness. The Kumgang warrior is known as the mightiest warrior, and Mt. Kumgang holds significant importance in the Korean national spirit.

Taekwondo, which loosely translates to “the way of the foot and fist,” is a Korean martial art with a rich history spanning several thousand years. It has gained immense popularity in the past 60 years and is practised by over 50 million people in over 150 countries worldwide. Training in taekwondo includes a variety of hand and foot techniques that form the basis of forms (Poomsae), sparring (Kyorugi), self-defence (Hoshinsul), and breaking exercises (Kyokpa).

At Kumgang Taekwondo, the instructors aim to promote excellence and understanding in the art of taekwondo, while also making a positive difference in the lives of their students. Beginners are welcome to join at any time throughout the year and are invited to participate in their first class free of charge.

The school is affiliated with Taekwondo New Zealand (TNZ), which follows the rules and guidelines set by the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) based in Seoul, South Korea.

Kumgang Taekwondo operates from two locations. The Central East Auckland dojang is located in Meadowbank at 28B Rutherford Terrace, Meadowbank, while the North Shore dojang is situated in Takapuna at 35 Porana Rd, Wairau, Auckland. The class schedule is flexible, offering multiple options for different age groups and experience levels throughout the week.

In addition to regular classes, Kumgang Taekwondo provides various opportunities for members to participate in taekwondo competitions held in New Zealand and even overseas. They also organise an annual taekwondo camp, which is enjoyed by students of all ranks. The school is deeply committed to promoting anti-bullying awareness through its Bullying Awareness Seminar and STAR programme, which has gained popularity among both students and parents.

Promotion tests for colour belts are held four times a year, while black belt tests take place once a year. Recently, nine students were successfully promoted to black belt, receiving Kukkiwon (WTF headquarters in Korea) certificates.
