About

Kirby Castlers Chess Club, a local chess club in Kirby Muxloe, is excited to promote an upcoming chess event in the Leicestershire and Rutland area.

The Leicestershire and Rutland Chess Association, responsible for overseeing chess in the city of Leicester and the surrounding counties, is organising this event. They have established themselves as a reputable organisation, affiliated with the Midland Counties Chess Union. Their dedication to chess is evident through the various events and competitions they host in our region.

One recent event that caught our attention was the ECF online junior county championship, in which the Leicestershire and Rutland team participated. Despite facing some technical challenges, the team showed immense resilience and showcased their impressive talent by securing a commendable third-place finish. It is a testament to their competitive spirit and love for the game.

We were also moved by a heartwarming incident that took place during a chess match in Leicester. Richard Hanscombe suffered a cardiac arrest, and luckily, Professor Simon Gay, a trained GP, was present and immediately began CPR, ultimately saving his life. This incident emphasises the importance of having basic CPR skills and the impact they can have in emergency situations. It serves as a reminder of the importance of being prepared and the value of our chess community coming together.

Looking beyond the borders of our local chess club, Chess in Schools and Communities (CSC) is making great strides in promoting chess education in Leicestershire. They are providing opportunities for chess players to contribute to the development of school chess in our region. CSC offers training and remuneration for running chess clubs or teaching chess lessons in schools. With the government's allocation of funding to promote chess in schools, CSC aims to utilise this support to bring the benefits and joys of chess to more students.

If you're a chess enthusiast looking to participate in a vibrant chess community, this upcoming event organised by the Leicestershire and Rutland Chess Association is a fantastic opportunity. Join us as we celebrate the resilience and talent of our local chess players, learn about important life-saving skills, and support the growth of chess in our schools. We look forward to seeing you there!
