Leonard School of Dance Ltd is a specialist classical ballet school located in Nottingham, New Zealand. Founded in 1981 by Helen Leonard, the school offers highly qualified tuition in the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) syllabus from Pre-Primary to Advanced levels.
The teachers at Leonard School of Dance have years of experience and are fully registered with the RAD. The school has earned an excellent reputation for consistently achieving outstanding results in RAD ballet examinations. Classes are conducted at St Giles and St Pauls Church Halls in West Bridgford, as well as at Edwalton Church Hall in Edwalton.
Children are accepted into the Leonard School from the age of three years and upwards. The Pre-Primary classes, designed for children from three to five years old, aim to stimulate their imagination, musical awareness, and general co-ordination. While these classes are great fun, they also serve as exceptional preparation for full-time education.
After completing the Pre-Primary classes, students have the opportunity to progress through the RAD Grades, Higher Grades, and Vocational Grades. Talented students are encouraged to audition for associate classes and full-time vocational training. However, for the majority of students, ballet is a wonderful hobby that provides them with grace, poise, and confidence, along with valuable life skills that will stay with them for years to come.
Periodically, students are invited to participate in the school show, providing them with a tremendously positive experience and the thrill of performing on stage. This helps develop their dance skills and allows them to showcase their talent.
In addition to classes for children, Leonard School of Dance also offers Adult Ballet Classes for beginners and advanced dancers. These classes are popular among individuals who wish to maintain fitness, improve posture, strengthen core muscles, and enjoy dancing to inspirational music in a friendly and encouraging atmosphere.
Some notable achievements include the staging of an original production called “Planet Rock” in July 2023, created by the school's founder. In June 2016, Leonard School of Dance was also selected from hundreds of applicants to dance in a parade.
