Marist Albion RFC, located in Christchurch, has a strong legacy in rugby and community engagement. Colin, the organiser, values the bond with 27 other Marist Clubs across New Zealand. These sister clubs offer sports like cricket, netball, and squash. The Christchurch facilities serve as a central hub for Marist activities, fostering a family-oriented environment with Christian values.
Membership at Marist Albion is open to everyone, attracting members from all corners of the city. The club has strong ties with five feeder schools and many primary schools for its junior club. These young players often stay with the club even after finishing school.
Marist Albion encourages active participation and aims to make rugby enjoyable for the long haul. Besides senior teams, they field two ‘Golden Oldies’ teams each season. The club also hosts overseas players to enhance their skills at the Division 1 or age group level. Known for its open, running rugby style, the club has secured top-four placements in eight of the last ten years, though their last championship win was in 2003.
Colin ensures that the club operates with a mission to benefit players and the community, respecting the Catholic and Christian values of its members. The goal is to help everyone reach their potential while enjoying a vibrant social scene.
