About

Lesley Walker would like to give you a glimpse into the world of the Mid-Wales Dance Academy, a thriving community based in Brecon. With over 200 students starting from the age of 3, the academy offers a variety of dance classes such as ballet, tap, modern, and street dance. Affiliated with respected institutions like the Royal Academy of Dance and the International Dance Teachers Association, Mid-Wales Dance Academy ensures top-notch dance education.

The classes are held at Theatr Brycheiniog, which features a spacious studio equipped with sprung floors, mirrors, and barres. Lesley founded the academy in 1995 as Ribbons Ballet School, and it has since grown to offer a wide range of classes, all taught by fully qualified and DBS-checked teachers.

Lesley and her team are dedicated to teaching a love for the performing arts through both technical and enjoyable training. The academy focuses on self-development and maintaining a disciplined but supportive learning environment for all its students.

A highlight each year is the annual dance showcase at Theatr Brycheiniog. This professional event features captivating performances, often based on thematic concepts. You'll see both original pieces and classical ballets like 'The Nutcracker', 'Swan Lake', 'Giselle', and 'Coppelia'. The younger dancers also get their moment to shine with junior ballets such as 'Thumbelina'.

Beyond the annual showcase, students get the chance to perform in productions by external companies. These experiences often include dancing with renowned performers like Pasha Kovalev from Strictly Come Dancing, giving students a taste of the professional dance world.

Parents are regularly invited to watch classes throughout the year, providing a chance to see their children’s progress and often serving as fundraisers for causes like Children in Need.

The academy’s achievements are showcased in an online gallery that highlights performances across various dance styles. Additionally, the signature Mid-Wales Medley dance piece displays the unique talent fostered at the academy.

Lesley, along with her dedicated team, continues to inspire and nurture the next generation of dancers in Brecon and beyond.
