Are performing combinations of movements with speed and accuracy. Kihon is the foundation of our practise and is essential for building strength, coordination, and muscle memory.
In our Tai Chi classes, we focus on both the health benefits and the martial art aspect of this ancient practise. We teach the Yang and Chen forms, which include slow, flowing movements that promote relaxation, balance, and flexibility. We also incorporate Push Hands and the Two Person Tai Chi form to develop sensitivity, timing, and application of the movements in a partner setting.
At Mushin Martial Arts, we believe in the value of training with weapons to enhance our overall practise. We use a variety of weapons including the Bo, Bokken, Shinai, knife, and tai chi sabre. These weapons help improve coordination, develop proper hip movement, and enhance the projection of ki/chi energy.
The five tenets that guide our practise are relaxation, centralisation, concentration, harmonisation, and breathing. We emphasise the importance of practising with relaxed muscles and finding natural movement in order to maximise speed and flow of energy. Centralisation focuses on the tan dien or centre point of the body, enhancing balance and body positioning. Concentration and self-discipline are key to strengthening the mind and producing ki/chi energy.
Harmonising with opponents is essential for effective martial arts practise, and proper breathing techniques aid in concentration and centralisation.
Our classes are available for adults only (18+) and take place on specific days and times. Karate classes are held on Tuesdays from 19:00-21:00, while Tai Chi classes are offered on Sundays from 18:30-20:30. We also provide beginner classes for those who are new to martial arts.
Mushin Martial Arts is located at the 37th Kingswood Scouts HQ in Deerhurst, Kingswood, Bristol. Our instructors are DBS checked and our students are trained to a high standard. We are proud of our 99% grading pass rate, which reflects the dedication and commitment of our students.
