Nanaimo Yacht Club (NYC) Sailing School is a not-for-profit organization located in Nanaimo, British Columbia, dedicated to promoting competitive and recreational sailing. The school offers courses in dinghies designed for youth aged 7 – 18. As a Sail Canada certified sailing school, NYC is active all year round, offering junior programs such as the youth race team and summer sailing camps. All programs are led by Sail Canada certified coaching staff who adhere to Sail Canada guidelines.
NYC junior members have access to a fleet of Club-owned Optimist, Topper & 420 kayaks, and stand-up paddle-boards, which are conveniently stored on the docks directly overlooking Nanaimo harbour. As the school gears up for the 2024 Summer Season, registration is set to open on April 1st.

Frequently Asked Questions
We run kids learn to sail programs, including summer camps with age appropriate training, plus progression from Opti to C420 and options for teen sailing classes.
We take safety seriously and follow Sail Canada's national learn to sail program, with the CANSail program taught by trained and certified instructors.
When registering, please consider the level your sailor is at and the time it will take them to complete the next one, with Sail Canada recommending 1-2 weeks for beginner courses and 2-4 weeks for advanced.
