Nelson BMX Club

The Nelson BMX Club is located at Tahunanui Beach, Beach Rd. The track is maintained by a dedicated group of riders, parents, and helpers who are passionate about the sport of BMX. They also provide support and coaching to all participants, ensuring a fun and safe environment for everyone.

For those interested in racing and coaching, the club offers sessions on Thursday evenings from 5:30pm to 7:00pm at the track. Riders of all levels are welcome, and there will be experienced riders and helpers available to provide training and guidance. If you're unsure whether BMX is for you, feel free to attend a training night to get a taste of the sport.

If you're ready to fully immerse yourself in the BMX scene, the club offers membership options. You can choose between a club licence or a national licence, which allows you to travel and compete at other meetings. Membership details can be obtained by inquiring at one of the training nights.

The Nelson BMX Club is affiliated with BMX New Zealand Incorporated (BMXNZ), which is the national sports organisation governing and nurturing BMX in New Zealand. There are 32 BMX clubs across the country affiliated with BMXNZ, including the Nelson BMX Club. Membership with the club includes a race licence with BMXNZ, allowing you to compete not only at the club level but also throughout New Zealand.

To register for BMXNZ and become a member of the Nelson BMX Club, you can visit the BMX New Zealand website and use their custom Sporty registration form. This enables you to link as a member to your club and be licenced with BMXNZ. The registration process is designed to be quick and efficient, ensuring you can start racing as soon as possible.

It's important to note that all BMX licences expire on December 31st of the valid year. Additionally, if a rider is turning UCI16 in the year they're applying for, they must submit the licence application themselves. Licence types vary depending on the age and skill level of the rider, including Strider Licences for riders up to UCI 4 years old, Sprocket Licences for riders up to UCI 7 years old, and Challenge Licences for older riders.
