About
Nelson Golf Club boasts over a century of tradition. Founded in 1905, the Club's journey started on a nine-hole course in Tahunanui, and today, it stands as a symbol of golfing excellence in New Zealand.
Simon Dawson, the organiser, champions the Club’s storied past. Significant changes, including a WWII-era transformation when the Royal New Zealand Air Force took over most of the course, have shaped its evolution. In 1945, the Club reclaimed its grounds, and by 1948, an 18-hole layout was established. Key facilities, like the sergeants' and officers' mess building, were repurposed into the heart of the Club, now located near the first and eighteenth holes.
This venue isn't just about the past. Nelson Golf Club has hosted prestigious events such as the New Zealand Amateur Championships, Freyberg Rosebowl, and South Island Amateur Championships. Its history includes notable moments like the 1912 and 1923 New Zealand Ladies Golf Championships.
Today, the Nelson Golf Club is more than just a golf course; it's a destination with picturesque scenery and a challenging layout that attracts players nationwide. Simon Dawson knows that to play here is to be part of a legacy. Get ready to step onto the greens and become part of Nelson Golf Club’s ongoing story.
