Northwood Taekwondo

Rakesh Lakhani would like to share a few words with the sports community. He wants everyone to know about the unique martial art known as Taekkyeon, which laid the foundation for Taekwondo. In 1955, General Choi Hong Hi officially established Taekwondo as a Korean martial art. Today, it’s one of the most popular martial arts across the globe.

Northwood Taekwondo, located in Northwood, UK, is a club that Rakesh has dedicated his heart to. The club specialises in teaching the art and physical elements of Taekwondo, with a focus on self-defence, confidence, and fitness.

The club offers classes for various age groups and skill levels. The Little N-TKD programme is tailored for children aged 4 to 6 (Reception to Year 3). These fun and engaging sessions introduce youngsters to Taekwondo through activities like running, jumping, contact-free kicking and punching, pad work, and coordination exercises. Yoga-inspired stretching is also part of the programme to boost flexibility and core strength.

For those aged 7 and above (Year 3 onwards), the club provides classes for beginners and higher belt levels. These classes offer comprehensive training in self-defence, discipline, and fitness. Students improve their coordination, strength, reflexes, endurance, and speed through Taekwondo techniques and forms.

Northwood Taekwondo is affiliated with the British United Taekwondo Federation (BUTF), an organisation established in 1988 that ensures high standards of instruction and integrity in Taekwondo.

Under the expert eye of Rakesh Lakhani, who holds a 3rd Dan Black Belt and has been practising Taekwondo since 1997, the club thrives. His extensive training under Grandmaster Manning IX and his background as an IT consultant fuel his dedication to the sport.
