Quicksilver Dive, one of Port Douglas' most popular Scuba Diving clubs, is excited to promote the upcoming PADI Advanced Open Water Certification event. This two-day course is perfect for individuals who already hold a PADI Open Water certificate or equivalent from another training agency.
Unlike traditional classroom sessions, this course requires students to complete the PADI eLearning Advanced Open Water course online before attending. So you can learn at your own pace and convenience. Once onboard, the knowledge will be reviewed prior to each training dive, ensuring that everyone is ready for a fantastic underwater experience.
Now, here's something to keep in mind. Due to the operational impacts of COVID-19, there might be some changes to the vessels and dive sites used for the reef day trip. Vessels like Silversonic or Poseidon may be utilised, with alternative dive sites including Quicksilver Outer Reef Cruise to Agincourt Reef 3 and Wavedancer Low Isles Cruise. Rest assured, while fun dives may not be possible in all circumstances, participants will still be able to complete all the required training dives.
The course itself consists of five training dives and one fun dive. The Deep Dive and Navigation Dive are mandatory and provide an opportunity to push the boundaries of open water diving. Under the close supervision of an instructor, participants will gain experience in conducting dives beyond the 18-meter depth limit, expanding their confidence and skills. The Navigation Dive, on the other hand, focuses on enhancing underwater navigation abilities using compasses and natural references.
But that's not all. Quicksilver Dive's course includes additional dive types to further improve your diving prowess. The Peak Performance Buoyancy (PPB) training hones your buoyancy control skills, ensuring you're properly weighted, optimally positioned, and using effective breathing techniques. Excellent buoyancy control not only protects divers but also helps to minimise damage to the precious coral reef by reducing accidental contact.
Boat Diving is another aspect covered in the course, providing valuable knowledge about different types of dive boats, from small inflatables to larger vessels. And who can forget the Underwater Naturalist – Fish ID dive? This dive allows participants to learn how to identify various fish families, from damselfish to triggerfish, and explore different types of corals. It's an underwater adventure like no other!
After completing the certification dives, participants can then enjoy a much-deserved fun dive. Just imagine, diving with newfound skills and confidence among the awe-inspiring marine life of Port Douglas.
To ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience, it's important to note the check-in and departure details. Check-in begins at 7:30 am at the Quicksilver Reservations Counter in the Port Douglas Marina, where passengers will receive their boarding passes. Before departing for the Outer Barrier Reef, passengers can indulge in a complimentary morning tea or breakfast served on board. Dive 1 takes place at the first reef location, followed by Dive 2 at the second location. To keep you energised, a buffet lunch is served in the air-conditioned cabin. Dive 3 is then conducted at the third reef location, and passengers can relax with some afternoon tea on board before the late afternoon departure. Finally, Poseidon arrives back at Port Douglas Marina, and coaches depart to transport participants back to their accommodations.
To ensure the safety of all participants, it's essential to be aware of the COVID-19 Vaccination Requirements. Stay informed and follow the guidelines provided by the dive club.
Now let's talk pricing. The PADI Advanced Open Water Certification is priced at $998 per person for both adults and children. This all-inclusive rate covers the necessary government environmental management charge. Please note that there are additional fees such as the Port Departure Tax, Environmental Management Charge of $7 per person per day, and administration costs.
