Mat classes are designed to increase your awareness of your body and your understanding of Pilates as a whole. These classes will help improve flexibility and core strength through a variety of exercises targeting the entire body.

Studio classes at Pilates of Berkshire are limited to no more than five participants at a time. Each person works individually, following a programme designed specifically for their needs. These sessions are suitable for individuals with specific problems who require extra attention, as well as those who are fit and looking to enhance their current fitness programme. Each studio class lasts for 90 minutes, and sessions must be booked in advance.

Pilates is a body conditioning technique developed by German-born Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century. It focuses on both physical and mental well-being, improving strength and flexibility throughout the entire body. Pilates enhances muscle performance, improves spinal alignment, and promotes better posture. The practise of Pilates emphasises breath control, postural symmetry/body alignment, muscular flexibility, spine/pelvic/shoulder stabilisation, abdominal strength, and joint mobility.

Pilates of Berkshire welcomes men and women of all ages and abilities. Pilates is a safe and gentle form of exercise that aims to strengthen all muscle groups, especially weaker ones. It does not need to replace your current exercise regime, but can enhance it. Pilates can strengthen range of motion in all joints, aid in injury prevention and repair, and assist in post-joint operation rehabilitation.

The benefits of Pilates include improvements in balance, coordination, and core stability. Postural alignment is enhanced, while flexibility and mobility increase. The focus on proper breathing techniques during Pilates allows for optimal benefits from the exercise. Pilates also complements other activities and sports, improving endurance and overall strength.

It is particularly beneficial for individuals engaged in running, golf, football, horse-riding, cycling, and many other sports. Individuals with specific conditions such as fibromyalgia, knee operations, hip replacements, back surgery, and other joint issues often see improvements with Pilates.
