The RIAI Aikido Learning Centre, located in Grey Lynn, Auckland, is a self defence school and martial arts club offering classes for both children and adults. The centre has a permanent dojo with mats available at all times. Specialised classes are provided for different ranks and abilities, and regular seminars and Aiki labs are offered to further explore aspects of Aikido.
The teaching staff at the RIAI Aikido Learning Centre is highly experienced, with over 75 years of combined experience in Aikido. Classes are available three days a week, with children's classes held on Mondays from 5pm to 6pm. Visitors are welcome to come in and watch a class, ask questions to instructors or students, and get a feel for the environment.
At the RIAI Aikido Learning Centre, students have the opportunity to learn at their own pace. Second Level Training is offered, which focuses on the communication of energy in techniques. Additionally, students can complete a learning-based tool that identifies their best learning style, allowing instructors to cater to individual preferences.
Enrollment for beginners is open at any time, and the centre offers 6 free lessons over a span of 2 weeks with no joining fee or long-term contract. After the initial two weeks, each class costs only $18. There is no need to book in advance, simply turn up to any class.
For children between the ages of 7 and 14, dedicated Aikido classes are available on Mondays from 5pm to 6pm. The classes run throughout the school term and cost $120 per term ($100 for siblings). The RIAI Aikido Learning Centre is situated at 38 Monmouth Street, Grey Lynn, Auckland 1021. The dojo also has two other locations in Wellington City and Te Atatu. The instructors at the centre include Sensei Henry Lynch (6th Dan - Aikikai), Sensei Danny McIntyre (5th Dan - Aikikai), Sensei Daryl Murray (3rd Dan - Aikikai), Sensei Jennifer Senior (2nd Dan - Aikikai), and Sensei Mark Sleeman (1st Dan - Aikikai).
