About
Communities in Scotland. This aligns with our organisation's mission to promote equality, diversity, and inclusion. We believe that sports can play a significant role in breaking down barriers, fostering understanding, and promoting social cohesion. By supporting the Rugby Against Racism initiative, we hope to contribute towards creating a more inclusive and welcoming environment for BAME individuals in the rugby community.
The Rugby Against Racism initiative is a Glasgow-based rugby club with a strong focus on promoting diversity, equality, and inclusion within the sport. The club recognises that rugby has the power to transcend racial, religious, and background differences, and aims to create a space where individuals from all walks of life can come together and play rugby.
One of the key initiatives of Rugby Against Racism is the sale of branded bootlaces, with 100% of the profits being used to fund rugby inclusion projects. These projects aim to increase the number of BAME rugby players and coaches, with the ultimate goal of promoting diversity and representation within the sport. By purchasing these bootlaces, individuals can actively contribute towards making rugby a more inclusive and diverse sport.
The initiative has garnered support and partnership from various strategic partners and ambassadors who share the belief in the importance of addressing racism within sports. These individuals include rugby players such as Aaron Purewal, Murray McCallum, and Helen Nelson, who have experienced or witnessed racism within the sport and are committed to making a difference. The support of these ambassadors further highlights the necessity of promoting equality and encouraging open dialogue within the rugby community.
Rugby Against Racism also receives support from CEMVO Scotland, an intermediary partner of the Scottish Government. CEMVO Scotland recognises the potential of the initiative to raise funds that will be utilised to develop positive action initiatives in engaging with minority ethnic communities. The partnership underscores the shared commitment to promoting equality and inclusion in Scotland.
Through its efforts, Rugby Against Racism aims to challenge stereotypes, raise awareness about the issues faced by BAME individuals within the rugby community, and spark conversations that lead to meaningful change. The club strives to create an environment where all individuals feel comfortable discussing their experiences and concerns, fostering a sense of unity and support among teammates.
In conclusion, Rugby Against Racism is a Glasgow-based rugby club that seeks to promote diversity, equality, and inclusion within the sport. Through the sale of branded bootlaces and the support of strategic partners and ambassadors, the club aims to increase representation, support BAME players and coaches, and create awareness about the importance of addressing racism within sports. By working together, the club and its supporters hope to make a tangible and sustainable impact on rugby and the Black and Minority Ethnic communities in Scotland.
