About

Established in 1911, Saint Clair Surf Life Saving Club is one of the oldest surf life-saving clubs in New Zealand. For over 100 years, the club has been dedicated to saving lives and preventing injuries for St Clair beach users and the wider Dunedin community. Located at St Clair Beach on the northern end of the Esplanade, the club occupies a prime position in the heart of the St Clair community.

St Clair Beach is Dunedin's most popular swimming beach, attracting swimmers, surfers, walkers, and runners all year round. Club members patrol the beach on weekends from late October to early March each year, and there are additional patrols by Surf Lifesaving professional lifeguards on weekdays during school holidays. The club's ongoing volunteer service has made it a valuable asset to the community.

In addition to its lifesaving efforts, St Clair Surf Life Saving Club has made a significant impact in Surf Sports events. Over the years, numerous club members have achieved success in national competitions, including winning the first-ever female 6-person alarm title in 1944.

Every season, on average, St Clair Surf Lifesaving Club members assist around thirty members of the public in various incidents at St Clair Beach and its surrounding areas. The club currently has an active patrol roster of 70 dedicated members, with a total club membership of over 300.

Individuals and families can join St Clair Surf Life Saving Club by signing up online through the club's website. New members are also required to sign up with Surf Life Saving New Zealand. Membership can be renewed annually.

- Family Club Membership: $120. 00 NZD per year. If there are 2 or more family members joining, a parent or caregiver signs up first and then adds the other family members later.

- Junior Club Membership: $60. 00 NZD per year.

By becoming a member of St Clair Surf Life Saving Club, individuals, and families can contribute to the safety and well-being of beachgoers at St Clair Beach while being a part of a vibrant and active community dedicated to surf lifesaving.
