Our green is the envy of many clubs in the area, providing an excellent playing surface for bowlers of all levels. The club also has a modern clubhouse that offers a welcoming and comfortable environment for members to relax and socialise.
Inside the clubhouse, you will find a large social area with a well-stocked bar, where you can enjoy a refreshing drink after a game. There is also a pool table and dartboard for those who want to engage in a bit of friendly competition off the green. Leagues and Competitions South London Bowling Club is active in three leagues during summer – the New Surrey League, the Wimbledon & District League, and the Jenkins Law League. Matches take place on Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday afternoons, offering plenty of opportunities for members to test their skills against other clubs in the area.
In addition to league play, the club also hosts social evenings on Fridays, creating a vibrant and lively atmosphere for members to come together and enjoy each other's company. Club competitions are held throughout the summer, culminating in Finals Day in September. This is an exciting event where members compete for prestigious titles in various categories. History Established in 1900, South London Bowling Club has a rich heritage that spans over 120 years.
It is one of the oldest clubs in London and has a proud history of promoting and nurturing competitive bowls. The club's founders, including Tom Robertson and W. G. Grace, were instrumental in forming the English Bowling Association in 1903, placing South London Bowling Club at the forefront of the sport in its early years.
The club's green, laid with special turf imported from Forres, Scotland, has been the stage for many historic moments in the history of bowls. Notably, the club was selected to host the first international matches played between the four countries of the United Kingdom in July 1913. Throughout its history, South London Bowling Club has produced numerous English International Players, solidifying its reputation as a breeding ground for top talent.
