Matt and Natasha Craig have created a haven for surf enthusiasts in Omaha, New Zealand. Summer Sessions Surf Centre, their labour of passion, stands as Matakana’s top spot for all things surf. Originally a dedicated shop for paddleboards and surfboards, it now also features a wide range of skate and surf wear. Conveniently located next to Matakana cinemas, it’s right in the heart of the village.
Offering more than just gear and fashion, Summer Sessions is renowned for its surf lessons and camps. Whether it’s your first wave or you're honing advanced skills, their team of qualified instructors is ready. They also provide stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) lessons and camps, catering to all ages and skill levels with a commitment to safety and enjoyment.
Located in the picturesque village of Matakana, just an hour north of Auckland, Summer Sessions benefits from the area's stunning beaches, parks, and bustling markets. Visitors are encouraged to soak in the scenic beauty while enjoying Matakana’s vibrant surf scene.
Summer Sessions is open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm during summer, seven days a week, and from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm in winter, also seven days a week. Outside these hours, customers can still reach them via phone, email, or their website contact form.
Matt and Tash’s journey started fifteen years ago in Hood River, Oregon, during a whitewater kayaking competition. After marriage and some time in office jobs and car sales, they shifted gears to follow their oceanic dreams. Their first venture was Point Break Surf in Costa Rica, where they spent five years. Eventually, they found their new paradise in Matakana, establishing Summer Sessions Surf Centre.
The team consists of individuals who share a deep love for the ocean. Jaimee, with her fashion expertise since 2015, helps customers find the perfect swimwear and enjoys the beaches of Leigh and Mathesons Bay with her kids. Ash, another vital team member since 2019, returns with the reopening of the new store, bringing valuable experience.
