About
Tai-Shin Do Karate Academy UK is a martial arts club located in Woking, United Kingdom. The club specialises in teaching Traditional Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate, a style of karate founded by Chojun Miyagi. The literal translation of Goju-Ryu is “hard/soft,” with “go” meaning hard and “ju” meaning soft. The club aims to provide a space for individuals of all ages, starting from 4 years old, to learn this martial art, get fit, and embrace a disciplined form of exercise.
The teachings of Tai-Shin Do Karate Academy UK have a very pure lineage, emphasising the traditional aspects of Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate Do. The style can be traced back to Sensei Miyagi's training in China with Chinese masters of the White Crane style Kung Fu. This fusion of Chinese martial arts and Okinawan techniques led to the creation of Goju-Ryu Karate.
In addition to the regular karate classes for men, women, and children, Tai-Shin Do Karate Academy UK also offers specialised workshops for women's self-defence. These workshops aim to equip women with the necessary skills to keep themselves safe and make them aware of the right actions to take in challenging situations. Those interested in attending the next workshop can reach out to the academy via email.
The club also caters to younger children through their Little Ninjas programme. Designed for children aged 3 to 5 years old, this programme focuses on creating a fun and engaging environment while introducing them to the fundamentals of karate.
