About
Rachel, the organiser of The Exiles Bromley – Mediaeval LongSword HEMA Club, has a message for the sports community.
Rachel extends a warm welcome to The Exiles Bromley, a Martial Arts School based in London. With study groups spread across the UK and into Europe, Rachel ensures a dynamic, comprehensive curriculum that equips students with skills in historically accurate martial arts and modern self-defence.
At The Exiles, the focus is on essential combat techniques such as unarmed striking and grappling, dagger attack and defence, and the use of longswords, poleaxes, and spears. Training involves both armoured and unarmoured combat, offering members a well-rounded understanding of mediaeval martial arts.
Rachel's primary influence is the 600-year-old teachings of Master Fiore dei Liberi, whose straightforward approach forms the backbone of their instruction. The techniques practised have been extensively researched by group members for over 15 years, in collaboration with similar societies dedicated to European Martial Arts.
The community of European Martial Arts is growing, attracting individuals from diverse combat study disciplines and mainstream martial arts. With The Exiles, training intensity and focus are tailored to individual preferences and objectives. Structured lessons guide members through their martial arts journey.
Rachel's club is inclusive, welcoming everyone regardless of skill level, knowledge, race, or gender, though members must be 16 years or older due to insurance policies. The Exiles features Certified Instructors and senior students, ensuring comprehensive training in a friendly, non-competitive environment.
Supporting accessibility, The Exiles offers training in various locations across the UK, from Barking in East London to Carlisle in Cumbria, and even online.
New members receive an overview of the curriculum during their first session and get to meet other members and experience the training environment firsthand.
Rachel invites you to join The Exiles Bromley – Mediaeval LongSword HEMA Club to explore historical combat and personal growth. Contact us today to learn more about European Martial Arts or to become a member.
