Torbay Model Racing Car Club

Welcome to TMRCC (Torbay Model Racing Car Club), a renowned radio-controlled car club located in Torquay, NZ. Situated in the Bowling Alley on Torquay's picturesque harbour side, TMRCC offers an exhilarating experience for hobbyists and enthusiasts of all ages.

With two purpose-built indoor racetracks for battery-powered cars, TMRCC caters to the needs of both on-road and off-road racing. The on-road track is specifically designed for Mini touring cars, low-to-the-ground vehicles with minimal suspension that demand a precise driving style. On the other hand, the off-road track is perfect for buggies, high ground clearance cars with ample suspension that can jump up to 4–5 feet in the air.

TMRCC warmly welcomes new racers, regardless of their age or skill level. For those new to the hobby, the club offers two off-road and one on-road club cars that can be hired to get them started on their racing journey. With food and drink available from the Diner upstairs, TMRCC provides a friendly and pleasant environment for both racers and spectators.

The club organises weekly races for different classes of model cars. “Torbay On Road Racers” (TORR) is a popular Tuesday evening event, where passionate volunteers and members compete on a smooth track. The Mini Touring Car (MTC) class takes centre stage on Tuesdays and has seen remarkable growth since its inception. The aim is to have fun and race against cars of the same class, creating a thrilling and competitive environment.

TMRCC caters to various classes of model car racing, ranging from beginners to experienced racers.

Friday nights are devoted to the “Torbay Micro Racing Club” led by Malcolm and assisted by dedicated volunteers. The club races long-wheelbase 1/16th off-road buggies, showcasing the talents of like-minded individuals and fostering a friendly and enjoyable atmosphere. New drivers are warmly welcomed into the TMRCC family, where they can race toy cars, make friends, and have a laugh.

The opening times for TMRCC are Tuesday evenings from 18:00 to 21:30 for Torbay On Road Racers and Friday evenings from 18:00 to 22:00 for Torbay Micro Racing Club. The club primarily races Mini touring, GT12, 1/10th touring, and Tamiya Truck on Tuesdays and 1/16th long wheelbase Micros on Fridays.
