About
Welcome to the University of Sussex Sport Aikido Club, based in Falmer, Brighton. As the top spot for Aikido in Sussex, the club is dedicated to teaching and promoting this modern Japanese martial art that focuses on controlling and redirecting an opponent's attacks by using their own energy and momentum against them.
Stuart, the organiser, believes that success in Aikido isn't about gender, size, or physical strength. Instead, there's a focus on controlled relaxation, timing, coordinated whole-body movement, and balance to overcome opponents. The experienced instructors are committed to helping everyone, from beginners to seasoned practitioners, develop their mental strength and technical skills.
The club welcomes people of all ages and skill levels, offering sessions for those aged 8 and above to ensure Aikido is accessible to everyone in the community. To complement in-person sessions, the club also provides e-learning resources, allowing members to continue their Aikido journey at their own pace.
With a variety of venues and times, the club aims to accommodate different schedules, making it easy for more people to participate. Detailed instructor profiles are available in the club directory, helping members choose the instructor that best fits their learning preferences.
