West Side Aikido, located in Sunshine North, is a reputable martial arts school that offers Iwama Ryu Aikido lessons for both kids and adults. The school is dedicated to providing high-quality training and promoting self-defence and self-development in a safe and effective manner.

The history of West Side Aikido dates back to 2011 when Filip Kolarov, a 3rd degree black belt in Iwama Ryu Aikido, started teaching Aikido to students of all ages. Under the tutelage of James Sowery Sensei and the late Micheal Field Sensei, Filip has honed his skills and expertise in Aikido. His teaching style emphasises safe and effective training, with a strong focus on self-defence and personal growth.

At West Side Aikido, the first three classes are free, allowing prospective students to experience the benefits of Aikido before making a commitment. The school understands the importance of tightening up the slack, toughening the body, and polishing the spirit, as quoted by the founder of Aikido, Morihei Ueshiba.

Classes are held on Mondays and Wednesdays, accommodating both kids and adults. The kids' classes are from 4:45 PM to 6:00 PM, followed by the adult classes from 6:15 PM to 8:00 PM. Due to hall availability, the current schedule is limited to two days a week, although additional classes may be announced in the future.

The philosophy of Aikido is centred on the belief that the divine is not something high above, but rather, it is within us, as stated by Morihei Ueshiba. West Side Aikido embraces this philosophy, inviting students to explore their inner potential and find harmony within themselves and their surroundings.
