The Consett Park Bowling Club is excited to share the highlights of their past events with the community. One noteworthy event was the annual Whist Drive and Dance and Social, which took place on April 1st, 1927. Held at St. Aidan's Hall in Blackhill, this event was a true celebration of fun and camaraderie.
The night kicked off with a spirited whist drive, where participants vied for valuable prizes generously donated by our supporters. Among the winners, Mrs. received the 1st prize, a lovely tea and coffee set. Mrs. was awarded the 2nd prize, a canteen of cutlery, while Mrs. happily took home the 3rd prize, a chic bag. Adding a touch of excitement, Mrs. won the mystery prize, a delightful cruet set. We express our gratitude to Mr. for presenting these well-deserved rewards and acknowledge his dedication to our club.
Following the whist drive, the Conside Quartette took to the stage, enchanting the crowd with their exceptional musical talent. Their captivating performance left everyone in attendance thoroughly delighted. It was an unforgettable evening, showcasing the incredible talent within our community.
The Conside Quartette's recognition did not end there. In 1928, they also performed at Leadgate, leaving the audience highly impressed. Their repertoire included the soul-stirring negro spiritual, 'Heav'n Heav'n,' which earned them an encore. Another memorable moment was their flawless execution of the quartet 'In Absence,' which garnered a recall from the appreciative crowd. The Party, with their members Mr. P. Watson (tenor), Mr. G. Richardson (tenor), Mr. A. Wildsmith (baritone), and Mr. H. Jackson (bass), truly showcased their unbelievable talent.
