White Tiger Karate

Sensei Hing-Poon Chan. Sensei Gregg Wade and Sensei Zach Yuen, both Godan (5th degree black belt) in Okinawan Goju Ryu Karate, lead White Tiger Karate in Kingston. Diverse martial arts experience adds depth to their teachings, as both instructors also hold the rank of Godan in Jukoshin Ryu Jujitsu.

White Tiger Karate's training philosophy is rooted in practical application within a traditional context. Affiliated with the Gloucester Traditional Karate Association, the school follows the teachings of Sensei Hing Poon Chan and the Meibukan school. The curriculum covers techniques at all belt levels, with detailed information available on the website.

Located at 745 Progress Ave in the YGK Combatives facility, classes are held on Fridays from 6-7 PM and Sundays from 7-8 PM. Membership dues are $40 monthly, with the first two classes free for new students. Dan Dut cher, Sandan (3rd degree black belt), serves as the dojo Sempai, supporting students in their training and progression.

White Tiger Karate honours the roots of Karate as a martial art of self-protection, originating in Okinawa and later influencing the school system in Japan. The specific Goju-Ryu style, developed by Master Chojun Miyagi, embodies the hard and soft aspects of inhaling and exhaling. The Meibukan branch of Goju-Ryu, established by Dai Sensei Meitoku Yagi, focuses on kata that integrate Master Chojun's favourite techniques.
