About

Welcome to the official website of the Whitewell Fishing Association, a private angling club for game fishermen located in the beautiful Hodder Valley within the famous Trough of Bowland in Clitheroe. Considered one of Lancashire's best fly-fishing waters, our club offers unique salmon, sea trout, brown trout, and grayling fishing opportunities spread over approximately ten miles of the River Hodder and the Isel Fishings of the River Derwent in Cumbria. The River Derwent is known as one of the most productive salmon rivers in England and Wales.

The majority of our Hodder fishing takes place on The Duchy of Lancaster Whitewell Estate, with the renowned Inn at Whitewell at the heart of our fishing. Whether you come to fish in the spring or summer, our waters offer a variety of game fish. From March to September, both the Hodder and Derwent boast a healthy population of wild brown trout, while sea trout make their appearance in May. By September, the salmon runs begin in earnest, with seasonal runs of summer fish on the Derwent.

The Hodder also has a thriving grayling population, offering our members genuine game fishing opportunities all year round.

Membership of the Whitewell Fishing Association is limited, but we always welcome applications from individuals interested in joining our unique club. Please be aware that there is generally a short waiting list for membership. Once on the waiting list, prospective members may be invited to attend an introductory meeting and informal interview before being offered membership. Our association holds a strict sporting ethic that values the traditional values of game angling, with a special emphasis on fly-fishing, for which our waters are particularly suitable.

We encourage applications from interested individuals from all parts of the country who share our passion for angling.
