Carlos Gracie. The two formed a strong partnership, with Gracie learning Jiu Jitsu from Koma and eventually introducing it to his family. The Gracie family is widely regarded as the pioneers of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Jiu Jitsu is a martial art focused on ground fighting, submission holds, and defensive techniques. It emphasises leverage and technique rather than relying on brute strength, making it suitable for people of all ages and sizes. It is an effective self-defence system that allows smaller individuals to defend themselves against larger opponents.

At Besnek Jiu Jitsu, members have the opportunity to learn and train in this martial art under the expertise of Murat Besnek, a First-Degree Black Belt under Peter de Been. Murat has competed at various levels and has won numerous State, National, and Pan Pacific medals.

Besnek Jiu Jitsu originally started as a training session among friends preparing for international competitions. However, as more people expressed interest, the club expanded to accommodate a growing number of students. The club now has a loyal following of individuals who train for competition, fitness, and enjoyment.

While competition training is still available at Besnek Jiu Jitsu, the club has evolved to prioritise creating a balanced lifestyle. Murat aims to provide members with an opportunity to regain physical fitness and mental well-being through Jiu Jitsu training. Additionally, the club offers a healthy avenue for socialising and building friendships, promoting a productive use of time away from home and family.

Besnek Jiu Jitsu also caters to kids by offering a chance for them to have fun, get strong, and learn practical Jiu Jitsu techniques. Jiu Jitsu helps keep their minds occupied, teaches them self-defence skills, and allows them to develop social skills while staying active.

Murat understands the dedication required to excel at the elite level in any field and is willing to support and assist those striving to win major titles in Jiu Jitsu or other martial arts. He himself competes internationally a couple of times a year while working full-time as an academic teaching Economics at Charles Sturt and La Trobe University.
