Cairns Aikido Aiki Kai – Far North Queensland, located in Kewarra Beach, is a prestigious Aikido school dedicated to promoting the practise and principles of this modern, non-violent Japanese martial art. The school, led by knowledgeable and experienced instructors, welcomes individuals of all skill levels, from beginners to advanced practitioners.

Training at Cairns Aikido Aiki Kai is conducted in a nurturing and relaxed environment, ensuring that students can learn and grow at their own pace. There is no pressure to attend classes frequently, as students have the flexibility to choose their own training schedule. All classes are beginner-friendly, and the school offers two free classes for newcomers to experience the art firsthand.

Classes are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm, and on Saturdays from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm. This schedule allows students to accommodate their training sessions according to their personal commitments.

As with any educational endeavour, there is a training cost associated with attending classes at Cairns Aikido Aiki Kai. Students can decide between a Monthly Pass, which allows unlimited classes for a fee of $50. 00 per month, or a Casual Per Class option, which incurs a charge of $15. 00 per class.

Additionally, there is a yearly membership fee to the National Aikido Association of Australia, which covers insurance, personal indemnity, administrative costs, and enables the school's technical committee to travel and instruct across the country.

Aikido, developed by the late master Professor Morihei Ueshiba, commonly known as O Sensei, is an effective martial art that goes beyond the resolution of physical conflict. Professor Ueshiba refined and uplifted the human spirit through Aikido, creating “the Way of Harmony with the Forces and Principles of Nature. ” Aikido is a true “budo,” where the keen edge of martial training is utilised as a means for spiritual growth. The term “Aikido” is derived from three Japanese characters or kanji. The first character, “Ai,” means meeting, coming together, and harmonising, which also translates to love, as intended by O Sensei. The second character, “ki,” signifies the mind, soul, and spirit. In a broader context, “ki” represents the spirit or force of the Universe, encompassing more than just the human spirit.

The third and final character, “Do,” meaning the way, emphasises that Aikido is not solely focused on self-defence techniques but also instils positive character-building ideals that can be incorporated into daily life.
