Join Melbourne Marathon Festival's Australia's largest marathon, the Nike Wheelchair Marathon, and race alongside marathon legends. The race will take participants around iconic locations such as Albert Park Lake, Flinders Street Station, and St Kilda beach foreshore, before finishing at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Whether you're an experienced marathon runner looking to set a personal best or a first-timer, this race is perfect for you. The event is set to take place on Sunday, October 13, 2024, with a race distance of 42.195 km. The start time is yet to be determined, so keep an eye out for updates.
For those using racing wheelchairs, the Nike Wheelchair Marathon is the perfect event. If you're using a non-racing wheelchair, please consider signing up for the Nike Melbourne Marathon instead. The field limit for the marathon is set at 100 participants, and all runners must be 18 years or older on race day. Participants in racing wheelchairs will start 5 minutes before the Half Marathon to allow for a safe and smooth course navigation without crowds.
Non-racing wheelchair participants are encouraged to sign up for the 3 km Walk, 180 Nutrition Good Sport 5 km Run, SriLankan Airlines 10 km Run, and Nike Half Marathon, as all distances are wheelchair accessible. The entry fee for the Nike Wheelchair Marathon is $185 and includes various inclusions that are yet to be specified.
The course map for 2024 is subject to change, but arrangements have been made for slower runners. These participants will be redirected at the 22 km mark into Fitzroy St from Beaconsfield Parade. They will receive a wristband and will need to make up the lost distance by completing loops in Brunton Avenue before heading to the MCG finish line within 7 hours.
Throughout the course, there will be drink stations providing water, Gatorade, and Maurten Gels, as well as medical assistance and toilets. Participants can also set up personal drink stations at designated locations. Let's all come together at the Nike Wheelchair Marathon and be part of this exciting running experience!
