Established in 1978 by chief coach Chris Hughes, Scorpion Gym was created to promote the sport of kickboxing. Starting in various makeshift locations such as school gymnasiums, community centres, and youth clubs, the gym eventually found a permanent base at Penhill Youth Club. After several successful years, the gym moved to its current location at 5 Westcott Place in 1994, where it boasts a fully equipped facility to develop high-calibre fighters.

Joint Head Coaches Dan and Chris Hughes bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the gym. Their expertise comes from their involvement in a variety of sports and martial arts disciplines, including kickboxing, Muay Thai, boxing, karate, Jui Jitsu, Kung Fu, and Escrima. Over the years, Scorpion Gym has produced multiple champions, including Lee Willis, British lightweight champion, Jay Douglas, British middleweight champion, Simon Bellety, European super welterweight champion, Austin Caverly, British super middleweight champion, and Matt Roberts, English middleweight champion.

In recent years, Scorpion Gym has transitioned to the exciting format of K1 kickboxing. The gym's fighters compete in events such as the British Super Fight Series and Glory, gaining exposure through extensive coverage on platforms like Sky and UFC Fightpass. Leading the way for the gym's new generation of fighters is Sami Salem, the current British 60 kg Professional K1 Champion with an impressive professional record.

While Scorpion Gym focuses on training fighters, they also welcome individuals who want to train for fitness purposes. The gym offers programmes tailored to the individual's goals and needs.
